Topical anesthetics, such as lidocaine-epinephrine-tetracaine (LET) solution, are often used to numb lacerations for pediatric patients. Soak a small cotton ball or cotton-tipped applicator with LET solution, and apply it firmly in the wound. Avoid gauze because it will absorb and wick away much of the solution from the wound.
